Rolling In The Carolina’s Joy & Pain!
0Rolling in the Carolinas was great now its time to feel the pain. Here are some tips for some relief.
Sunlight: Sunlight is a remedy for faster healing and pain relief. A study published in the January 2006 issue if Psychosomatic Medicine reported that postoperative patients in a University of Pittsburg study recovered faster and experienced less stress when recovering in a sunny room, as opposed to in a dimly lighted room. They also used 22 percent less painkillers per hour. Sunlight increases serotonin, a brain chemical that affects mood, sleep and appetite.
Rest:This one might seem obvious but I know allot of you guys went straight to your local skate session on your way back from NC. Sometimes simple rest is the best strategy for pain relief. If muscles are overworked or stressed, allowing the muscle to recover through non-use may free you from pain.
Movement: Movement is a good pain reliever. The body wants to move. By taking a muscle through its full range of motion, muscle soreness and tightness can often be eased and recovery and healing accelerated. Active Stretching is the most efficient movement you can use to help relieve pain caused by tight, sore muscles.
Breathe: Breathe when you have pain from tight muscles. Holding your breath locks muscle tightness in place. Doing an exhale helps to stimulate tight muscles to relax and release .
Water: Water may be a good strategy for easing muscle pain. Dehydration can cause an increase in inflammation and swelling and slow recovery time of sore, overworked or injured muscles.
Simply drinking more water has been shown to decrease soft tissue pain that is the result of fatigue, overuse, inflammation and injury.
Food: Certain foods can increase pain and slow healing. Sugar, caffeine and saturated fats all increase inflammation which is often a major cause of soft tissue pain. Limiting or eliminating these foods from your diet can help to decrease inflammation and therefore decrease pain.

Hey! Get Your Hands Off My Ball’s!
0I know allot of people that skate that don’t really know much about their skates. I make it my business to know my skates inside and out but here are some tips about ball bearings for those who dont!
Your new Bones Bearings are the most accurately manufactured part of your skate, with clearances and tolerances considerably smaller than 1/1000th of an inch. That means that a single hair is thicker than the clearance between the balls and the races inside the bearing, and a hair will clog it up and slow you down. Because you skate outside through dust, sand, water, mud, etc; your bearings will eventually get dirty and/or wet. When they are dirty, you will notice they don’t spin freely when you flick the wheel and you may also notice they are getting noisy. At this point you have two options: clean your bearings or replace them.

Save Hella’ Money On Your Next Skate Trip!
2As skaters we all know how much fun it is to travel and skate out of town. Here are a few tips to help you save hella’ money.
Book your hotel rooms early: This can be a big money save because the longer you wait the higher the hotel fairs will be. You don’t want to be stuck paying a high price for the room that you will barely stay in, you will be out partying and having fun.
Travel with a group: Traveling with a group of people is another way to say big bucks on a trip. If your drive to your skate destination you will appreciate the fact of having multiple drivers. Driving to the skate event is never a hard task but driving back when everyone is dead tired is another story!
When traveling in a group it is a good idea to keep it to a minimum: I recommend the max amount of people to a car and a room to be three. You want to be comfortable on the ride down and back. More than three people to a room can become cramp very quickly. If you keep it to the recommended minimum there will be no battles over bathroom time and your wait time before an activity will be less, unless your the type of person to leave everyone if their not ready.
A man, I think I ummmm, I think lost my money: Make sure everyone puts in the money before they leave for the trip. People have a tendency to “loose their money” before the trip is over. You wont be saving any money If you have to put your share of money up as well as someone else’s.
Purchase your skate event tickets early: Buy your skate event tickets early! You will only save a couple of dollars but dollars add up! You can get something to eat with the extra money you save from skate ticket savings.
